Bike to Work Day first came to the Bay Area in 1994. Thirty years later, the event takes place in all nine counties and lasts all month long as Bay Area Bike to Wherever Days. Be sure to celebrate this year’s Bay Area Bike to Work Day on Thursday, May 16th. Find energizer stations near you and events in your county all month long.
This year, riders joined the Bay Area Bike Challenge to ride a collective 30,000 miles and beyond to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Bike to Work Day! By the end of the month, riders tripled the initial goal with over 110,000 miles.

It’s hard to think about Bike to Work Day without imagining the yellow, green, and blue tote bags that riders pick up at energizer stations across the Bay. But who is behind that iconic art? For the 30th Anniversary of Bike to Work Day, we talked to Patrick Sean Gibson, the artist behind the past four BTWD designs.
